After care
It is very important to get your tattoo done safely. Because a tattoo is the same as a wound you are at risk of getting Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV/AIDS and other infections.
- First, make sure you are up to date with your immunizations (especially hepatitis and tetanus shots).
- If you have any medical problems check with your doctor first if getting a tattoo is safe for you.
- Don’t drink alcohol before getting a tattoo. It can cause excessive bleeding, which can push the ink out.
- Make sure cleaning products and an autoclave (for sterilization of the tattoo equipment) are being used.
- Inks should not be shared and needle and gloves should be disposable.
- The Studio should look clean.
-A lot of blood banks will not take your blood directly after you have been tattooed, because of the risk of infectious diseases. Usually it is best to wait 4-6 months before donating blood.
ALLERGIES:
If you are allergic to latex, you should let your tattoo artist know in advance. This will give him time to purchase a synthetic version. An allergic reaction to latex can cause your tattoo to heal in an unsatisfactory way and even can cause scarring.
If you are allergic to codliver oil check if your tattoo artist uses “A&D” ointment instead of Vaseline. This can cause serious medical problems and can ruin your tattoo. (note: most, but not all “A&D” ointments have codliver oil in them, but the majority do).
